Im not complaining, just making an aviary cultural statement. I ran out of bacon/pork roll fat and had to buy some suet at BGs to render for my woodpeckers. I warm it up and mold a filler, mix the renderings and sunflower seeds, freeze the mixture for a cage that hangs from our feeder tree. The last suet I bought, two big packages at Macs, cost me less than three dollars. Yesterday I got one small package and paid $3.19. Oy. On top of the money, I spent over two hours carefully rendering the suet, making a mold to freeze for installation later today, and freezing the rest in recycled Progresso Soup cans. This is a big investment just to sustain a handful of birds. One wonders what they would do if they saw I was hungry on a beautiful but cold (nine degrees at seven-thirty, nineteen now at eleven-thirty) winters day. Can one count on titmouse-for-tatmouse?
