Im not encouraging my kids to go to college. - Bedtime Anarchy I have to say I totally agree. Im not telling my kids theyre going to college. Im not going to say to them, Im putting aside some money for your future, but only if you decide that your future includes what I think it should include. In my opinion, college should not be a given, it should not be the end goal. You have no idea what your child is going to want to do with their life, and quite frankly, until they figure it out, I think college is a huge waste of money. Let them become who they are going to become, and allow that person to decide for themselves whether or not a college degree is part of who they want to be. I dont think it needs to be a given that a child WILL go to a university, his own passions will eventually lead him there if thats the right path for him. And if its simply GIVEN to him it wont be taken as seriously, in fact its much more likely that it will be taken for granted. And in my humble opinion, which you can take or leave, thats not how learning happens. Did you all hear about the school in Oregon that is only awarding high school diplomas (which have already been rightfully earned) to students who prove they have been accepted to a college? From the attatched article - “Foresight is not the strength of a 15-year-old,” Hm. So under that assumption you should force them to choose what they want to do for the rest of their lives ASAP. It may change several times before they graduate, but the sooner you start charging them for their education the more money youll get out of them in the long run. storyleak/oregon-school-district-accepted-college-high-school-diploma/
