Im not going to say that the fact Michael Brown robbed that convenience store doesnt matter. It does matter. But it doesnt change the fundamental question. Stealing Swisher Sweets isnt a capital crime. What we need to know at this point is whether there was an active melee going on when Brown was shot. If there was, it was justified. If there wasnt, and Brown was fleeing the encounter or had disengaged from it, then those protests are absolutely justified regardless of how unsympathetic many of the protestors might be. And by the way, Im talking about protestors. Im not talking about looters and rioters. What it appears is that the people rioting and looting are mostly out-of-towners and not residents of Ferguson. It would be nice if that distinction could be respected rather than to just lump everybody together because theyre all black people. Thats a dumb mentality, and its lazy.
