Im not in charge of any of the accounts so I dont know how many have signed up so far for the 2014 Lifting League but I thought Id post on what a difference your participation makes. The Lifting League is a good format. Weve been running it in the South East for a couple of years now so have been learning from mistakes, changing what we think needs changing and keeping the best bits. This will be a continual process though and Im sure there will be plenty more for the three wise men to discuss over pizza and a beer at the 2014 AGM. The organisation is also well thought out in my opinion. De-centralised so the power lies with the regions. Easy to enter. Fun but also competitive. I think were striking a good balance. None of this makes for a good competition though. What has made the Lifting League so much fun over the last two years are the teams whove competed. Every match Ive attended has had a friendly atmosphere. Some, like Bethnal Green vs St Marys in 2013 were hard fought, competitive matches, others were a bit of a foregone conclusion but all produced PBs and excellent performances in an encouraging atmosphere. The growth of the League from just a South East competition to about half of England being covered this year is an exciting development. At the start of the season every team can set its sights on lifting the regional cup (or shield) and reaching the knockout stages. Maybe even having their club engraved as champions on the Lifting League trophy or the new Affiliates Cup. When you enter your team in the Lifting League youre entering a brilliant competition which is fun to be part of but youre also contributing to that competition and making it a success. So if youre entering a team for the first time this year, thank you and welcome to the Lifting League! If youre one of the teams whos been in it from the start, thank you for making it a great competition and I look forward to meeting you on the platform in 2014!
