Im not one to blog...but it occurs to me, fighting this cancer is like a football game....two teams on the field...one offense, one defense. Offense is the BIG C....aggressive, wide spread, eager to win...Defense is the team consisting of the oncologist who is the quarterback calling the shots, the urologist who, like the cardiologist, provides input and advice to the QB and are on the front line with the pathologist, proctologist and support players. The only ologist missing is a cosmetologist ....and they may be called in too, I dont know...The game can be divided into quarters ....but my quarters will cover several months time. First quarter both teams are on the field, cancer determined to continue on the attack...defense determined to thwart the attack.Offense is aggressive and wide spread. Defense comes out swinging with a big play Lupron, a chemo treatment. A couple weeks into it, offense begins to weaken as defense chips away. Side effects of the Lupron play are a concern though. Exhaustion, muscle aches, headaches, muscle spasms start taking their toll. I think I am now at the end of the first quarter as offense is being stopped in its tracks. The defensive team is gaining momentum. Second quarter will last from now up into mid December with another internal look at progress so far and a determination as to how to proceed. Third quarter should see the offense shrinking by 30-40 percent and will be bombarded with radiation plays daily for 7-9 weeks. By this time, the defensive team warns of extreme exhaustion compounded by additional side effects....but nothing that cant be handled...at the end of this third quarter we assess fourth quarter strategy....plays for the fourth yet to be determined..how offense responds to the defense sets the stage....all I can do is join the cheering section....which is massive...and cheer the defense on to victory....I know I am anxious to see the final score..... I love football!
