Im not sure how many of my facebook friends are aware of this foundation and its story. Essentially its a organization started by the mother of a girl who was murdered in England in 07 for being dressed like a goth. Since most of my colleagues and students are of the different persuasion I thought Id share. And for EBM/Electro people, it hits close to home. The Sophie Lancaster Foundation goes to schools in the UK, teaching kids not to discriminate against people who dress differently. In the UK a few years ago there were attacks on goth people by having white paint thrown at them, and apparently just people being assaulted. My son told me kids that dress like that are bullied in his school in Sun Prairie, and I myself was bullied for many reasons in high school, one of which was all the black and Depeche Mode type stuff. So the goal of this foundation is to educate kids about different subcultures and prevent bullying and violence because of how someone dresses. Which as horrible as it sounds is pretty commonplace all over the UK as well as right here. Today is the 7th anniversary of Sophie being killed, so there you go.
