Im obviously confused and feeble minded but may I ask a question of all of you? Does anyone remember when governments actually did things? Im not talking about suggesting that we all sign an online petition or form a committee to discuss something before seeing what a focus group or lobbying company thought about it? (I remember an old lady; a member of the Communist Party of Great Britain talk with such pride of how the authorities had to drag Jimmy Maxton, an ILP MP, out of the House of Commons for something he had said or done to annoy them, and Willie Gallacher, a CP of GB MP, tried to stop it happening by jumping on the backs of those trying to eject Maxton from the Chamber. Gallacher was a small man so he got thrown off repeatedly. But IT DIDNT STOP HIM TRYING) I mean actually did things like, rightly or wrongly, sending police into the coalfields to break a the stranglehold the miners had on the economy? Well that was, in my view, a bad, bad decision (unless you were Yuill and Dodds), but at least it was a decision and something actually really happened. Now one man has a stranglehold on the country. But no-one suggests arresting him for economic or moral deviance. Why not? Where does he live? My life is over. My employer, my government, my church, my god and my sovereign have all forsaken me and treat me with nothing but contempt. Im willing to go and carry out a non-violent citizens arrest on Jim. Then Ill hand him over to the Police Service of Scotland. Between them and the Procurator Fiscal Im sure theyll build a watertight case. Or will it be me in the dock? Im too young to remember but the aftermath was still visible and even now there are still some people alive who remember what happened when a democratically elected UK government failed to stand up to one European megalomaniac and his followers.
