Im posting this as visible to the entire world in hopes that it will show up on my wall for all time and be visible to people who are not currently friends. I dont get a lot of friend requests, but I do get enough. Most of them I decline/ignore. Im sure there are a lot of people out there wondering why I dont like them anymore, or what they did wrong. The answer is simple: Nothing. Im simply re-evaluating the way I use Facebook. As it gets harder and harder to remain private (every change FB makes seems to make it more difficult to control who sees what), I get closer and closer to not using FB at all. The only reason I continue is because there are a number of people I enjoy keeping in touch with this way, and I havent come up with a viable replacement for FB other than e-mail. Which really isnt viable. My basic criteria for adding a friend is that I must know that person in real life. In the past year Ive added to that, and it must be someone with whom Ive had recent or frequent contact. I never add friends of friends if I dont have any idea who they are, or if Ive never met them. There are further concerns because of what I do for a living and the need to keep my work life out of the public sphere. And, conversely, keep my non-work life disconnected from my work life. I know that might not make a lot of sense to many, but I cant say more because, well, Im making this post completely public. Bottom Line: If you sent me a friend request and are wondering why I havent responded... Now you know. It isnt you. Chances are you already know my e-mail address, so you can always drop me a note there, and we can keep in touch that way. I hope this makes sense.
