Im posting this here because photography is my art and music is art. Art is what drives me these days, Art and giving and family and friends. My reflections from the first Gallery Acoustic Series with Bob Kendall last night at the Courthouse Center. Musicians walk into a small peaceful room. A room that serves to display art in all forms. The positive loving energy is felt. They go about their business of setting up equipment; they tune their instruments and play a few songs for a sound check. After 30 minutes or so, guests begin to arrive – they too feel something special in the air. The atmosphere is one of excited curiosity and fellowship because this gathering is one of common appreciation and love of sound vibration, patterns of tone and thoughtful arrangement. Anticipation expands. The room is full. Seats are taken and calmness settles in. The musicians say hello. Anticipation expands again. The music begins and the flock is captured – they become entwined in the moment appreciative. Songs are delivered with reborn meaning and purpose. There is a difference between this and the past. It’s been too long since an audience was focused like this. They press their talents further for their friends because time is fleeting and this is about the moment. Clearer lyrics, cleaner chords. Timing is on point. An antique pump organ sounds like an orchestral strings section. Has this even happened before? Anywhere? No. Final arrangements are played, but the brethren are silently asking for more. So it is. Reluctantly, the moment passes – a new family is born. A family born of common experience. A family who transcends bloodlines. A family.
