Im raising a stink about the coding of colonoscopy appointments. - TopicsExpress

Im raising a stink about the coding of colonoscopy appointments. I canceled mine, rather than pay out the wazoo for a routine peace-of-mind C-scope. I uncovered a widespread spread-em-wide scam. If you are on Medicare and you or anyone in your family has EVER had a polyp removed from the colon, your next appointment is coded as diagnostic instead of screening. That means the test is not fully covered by Medicare, so you have to pay your annual deductible plus a 20% co-pay. It doesnt matter how long ago that polyp was discovered or if youve had a no-problem test since then. Youre considered to be a high-risk patient and get charged extra for the exact same test that a newbie would get. The appointment scheduler at Baptist Internal Medicine applies the same reasoning when scheduling appointments for privately insured patients like me. You can research this yourself by Googling colonoscopy coding. Furthermore, my Navitus prescription drug insurance paid nothing toward the Prepopik, saying it was nonformulary. Mine is surplus now.
