Im really disturbed whats going on in Ferguson, MO, and if you arent disturbed as well, well I think you should be. For those of you that think whats going on over there doesnt involve you, youre very wrong. Here are some of my thoughts on the situation, and why as an American citizen you should be very concerned, in no particular order: 1) There are too many cases in this country of unhinged cops overreacting and either seriously injuring or killing innocent people. An overwhelming majority of these cases involve African Americans, many of whom have been proven to be completely innocent people who are in the wrong place at the wrong time and happen to match the description of a suspect (i.e., being black). Even if a suspect is likely guilty of a crime they still have the right to due process, and many times the Police seem to escalate the situation with an unnecessary show of force that ends up with someone dying, usually but not always a black person. 2) Why was the Police response in Ferguson to immediately bring out what looked like a military regiment equipped with TANKS, machine guns, riot gear etc. It was unnecessary and did nothing but raise tensions and hostility between the Police and demonstrators. Why do our police forces increasingly look like full-blown military? Why arent libertarians and right wingers worried about the militarization of our Police force? They sure claim to be, but seemingly only when it involves the rights of other white people. 3) Why is the media being suppressed in Ferguson? Why are journalists being arrested and detained? Shit like this is something that should concern all lovers of freedom and civil liberties, no matter where their beliefs lie on the political spectrum! 4) To those who ARE rioting and looting, I understand why you are mad as hell, but please, please, dont do it. Dont play into their hands. Dont justify their extreme use of force. Dont tarnish the message of JUSTICE that the vast majority of protesters are demanding. It will only make the idiots and racists in White America think we need MORE Police militarization and MORE of the prison industrial complex. Keep it peaceful and expose the hyper-militarization of the American Police force for the borderline fascism that it is! That is all for now. Goodnight.
