Im reflecting today on yesterdays memorial service of my friend, Maureen Budway, fondly known as Mo. What an honorable tribute and celebration of her life! Music she loved, performed by friends, recordings of Mos awesome singing, words of love spoken by family & friends, tears & laughter, a packed house. (Photo credit: my favs from others who posted) Im reminded of a night years ago when Mo was staying at my place. We were driving from a late Christmas Eve rehearsal at Orchard Hill, during which a huge snowstorm had hit the North Hills. Roads were treacherous. We inched song. There was no turning back. Mo cried out, O sweet Jesus!...sweet Jesus protect us! But amidst the tension and fear, we laughed. And we made it safely home. That was like her life. Despite the treacherous road she often travelled, the unknowns, the pain of her physical struggles with cancer, she maintained her joy and sense of humor. She kept her commitments, for there was no turning back on them. This week, she made it safely home - her eternal home. I can imagine her joy as she cried out, O sweet Jesus and fell into His arms, forever healed and pain free! Mo left an indelible imprint on the lives of all she met. And though we grieve her loss, she will forever leave us smiling, and sometimes chuckling, as we remember her joy, laughter and love!
