Im seeing a lot of mentions of World Toilet Day today, but they all seem to suggest that the lack of access to sanitation is something thats a real problem in Other Places, as opposed to Here. Lack of access to sanitation is not just a third world problem. There are thousands of people in places like Eugene and Portland who do not have access to sanitary facilities, and it affects their life just as much as folks in Honduras or India who are dealing with the same issue. Take this day to educate yourself on how lack of sanitary facilities affects you on a local level. And if youre horrified by what you learn and you want to chew out your locally elected representatives about it, I personally found that wearing a bear hat while doing so is strangely effective.
