Im seeing many, many posts from others in my news feed about Christmas. These are either for or against the celebration. I have heard the anti-Christmas arguments since the early 80s and understand the thinking about it. But I also need to think about what the other side of the argument is saying and has been doing for centuries. This whole conflict seems to be fairly recent. As I mentioned I heard the arguments against it in the early 80s and I agree with much of what I learned back then. I dont believe Jesus was born on December 25th, but I DO think it is highly probable he was conceived around that date and probably was born in September because the flocks would still have been in the fields at night at that time of year. Im not taking a stand on either side of this debate because i am not fully persuaded about either view. I do have my own concerns about it though. The Bible gives a very full account of the birth of our Saviour and there were gifts given to the Christ child mentioned in the Bible. Birthdays are joyous events and this one was the most joyous. I dont like the obligatory gift giving that happens at this time of year and people going broke in order to give gifts to so many. I believe gift giving at any time should not be out of obligation, but out of love without any expectation of being given gifts in return. And I dont think those who receive gifts should feel obligated to give but should feel gratitude and give genuine thanks. The thing that troubles me most is that those who oppose this celebration who are members of the Body of Christ are aligning themselves with many cults who have the same mindset and also with occult religions in their zeal to prove that the members of the Body of Christ who do observe are falling into pagan practices. I have no peace over that. I really am quite concerned over it. Anyway, those are just my thoughts on it. I dont want to debate the issue and I really am not convicted on one side or the other on this. God bless you all! Love ya!
