Im seeing the viral parent responses to the Common Core math - TopicsExpress

Im seeing the viral parent responses to the Common Core math problems, and I think back to my childhood, when new math was all the academic rage. (If youre unfamiliar with the term, google Tom Lehrer and new Math) In both cases, the educational process served(s) to push parents away from their ability/responsibility to assist in/understand/help with everyday math. This puts education professionals in the drivers seat, and pushes parents away from any viable input to the education of their children. For that reason alone, it should be tanked. When you add in the additional multiple, confusing steps to solve routine addition/subtraction problems, the problem is exponentially worse. Do they still treat exponents the same way?
