Im sharing some tragic news from my fellow Dublin Bay North Anti Austerity Alliance colleague Paul MacCormaic below about the sudden and untimely death today of our friend and colleague Paddy Cummins. I only got to know Paddy at the beginning of this year shortly after I moved back to Dublin and became active in the CAHWT in the neighbouring Coolock/Santry area. In recent months when activists from there and Paddys Dublin North East campaign came together to form the Dublin Bay North Anti Austerity Alliance hardly a day went by without me being in touch with Paddy or attending a meeting or campaign activity with him right up to this day last week when I called up to his house with boxes of newsletters and he was in great fettle only to be laid low two days later. Paul sums up well the scope of Paddys excellent contribution to the struggle we have been engaged in. Paddy during his working life as a mechanic in FIAT in Ballyfermot was an active shop steward and brought that valuable trade union experience and dedication to the working class into the campaign. I and others will miss him terribly. We need a lot more like him. My heart goes out to his family. Fellow Activists and Supporters, Paddy Cummins, a stalworth of the Dublin Bay North CAHWT and subsequently the Dublin Bay North Anti Austerity Alliance, died today. He suffered a brain hemorage last Friday and fell into a coma from which he did not recover. Paddy hardly ever missed a meeting and was a rock of good sense in the fight against home tax. He walked the streets of Howth, Donaghmede and Kilbarrack several times over during 2012, calling on thousands of homes giving information about the boycott. He was an avid lover of traditional music and played the banjo. He is survived by his wife and grown up children. When funeral arrangements are announced, Ill forward them. All the best, Paul MacCormaic
