Im sitting here in the lobby of our hotel and Im trying plan an Israel event for upcoming sessions of CLTC. Problem is, I cant do it. I cant do it because I cant stop praying. I think of my child upstairs, safely asleep in his bed, with my husband watching over him, while my friends in Israel cant sleep because they are waiting for another siren to go off and they have to run to a bomb shelter to take cover. I am praying for them. I think about my older children who are having the time of their lives at Camp Judaea where it is a little bit of Israel, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and Im praying they continue to be safe while they are not in my sight. I am praying for the families of ALL FOUR children--BABIES!--who have been lost in this most recent conflict due to senseless, baseless hatred. I am praying for my teens and my colleagues who are in Israel right now, witnessing first hand the tremendous conflict that Israelis live with on a daily basis and hoping and praying that they remain safe and secure. More than anything else, though, I am praying for peace. I dont mean the temporary peace that Israel has known for the last 66 years that ebbs and flows. I mean an eternal, lasting peace. A peace that will last forever and one that will lull the entire area into a sense of security where they dont have to worry when their children hitchhike (a previously accepted practice), or stop breathing every time there is breaking news because they worry about a bus having been bombed, or where they can stop looking around with every step, wondering where the nearest bomb shelter is. Baruch Hashem, please bring that lasting peace now. We cant wait any longer. So I continue to pray. May G-d who makes peace in the high places, make peace for all of us, all of Israel and all humanity. Today.
