Im so Bogalusa, that even though I only went through high school - TopicsExpress

Im so Bogalusa, that even though I only went through high school there, I consider it one of my most endearing homes. The people I met have become lifelong friends. I love the paper mill smell. We came with Tidewater for the mill. Daddy used to say, Get used to that. Its the smell of our home, food on the table, a college education, and the clothes on your back. My brother moved with us to work with Daddy at the mill, (when he got out of the Navy - Bay of Pigs) with his wife and baby Julie Russell Higgins-Realtor, had a son, Jeffrey Russell, who both married and raised their families there. My brother always said he was proud to be a Coon-Ass, and didnt lose anything in Virginia. I cruised Columbia, ate chili dogs at Floyds, po-boys, We lived there when Kennedy was killed and the whole town shut down. I swam in the quarry, got my first drivers license, social security card, and first job... learned how to do the jerk... avoided the marchers blocking entrances to the stores, and rode through town at night checking out all the buses from up north that brought protesters into town. I sat at stop signs waiting for the marchers to go through so I could finish errands. Whenever a new Beatle song would come out, I would stop what I was doing to go sit in my car to listen to the radio. I even learned to like red beans and sticky rice when we had it twice a week in the high school cafeteria. I wish I could visit more to see my wonderful family that still lives there, or near there.
