Im so happy right now! This week marked my first week as a fully certified teacher. Five days before graduation I already had a job lined up; which I think is pretty amazing. I came in to a classroom of 23 students, 15 boys and 8 girls. Students had substitute teachers the entire semester, so it is needless to say this group has a lot of discipline and behavior issues. But this post is not a rant. Instead, I want to maybe brag a little bit because today I received three separate compliments on what a wonderful job Im doing with this group. They each said theyve never seen this group of second graders walk the hallways so quietly and in perfect line. I have to admit this week Ive had small victories and a few defeats. I even felt discouraged and questioned whether I had chosen the right career path for myself. But then today I have to say was a perfect day. All victories! Students were actively engaged, cooperating, respecting each other (for 90% of the time), being responsible, and following all safety measures. My students are beginning to respond to my structure and the new routines in place. And then the principal walked in my classroom and we were so busy working I didnt even realize it until later when she told me during our conference time. I came home with tears of joy! Now, I understand not all days are going to work out like it did today, but it is rewarding and Im in love with my career. I still have so many things to learn, but Rome wasnt built in one day. Patience my dear, patience!
