Im sorry I left you hanging: My Hive - I moved the hive about 15 - TopicsExpress

Im sorry I left you hanging: My Hive - I moved the hive about 15 South towards the house. This allows the hive to get sunlight earlier in the day. The new queen I bought vanished and the old queen reemerged. The hive did become more active and they are in the final processes of packing it in for the Winter. By now they have kicked out the drones. They are cutting down on activity. On days when the temperature is above 45ish I still see a few bees flying in an out. Kyleys Hive - This hive stayed very active through the Summer. The hive produced a 3/4 shallow supper of pure honey. We took one frame off out and left the rest to give them food stores for the Winter. It was clear with a light tint and tasted phenomenal. I will be constricting the entries and may try to add an insulated top. Hopefully I can get one more warm day inspection in before of gets really cold. They can burn a lot of energy just trying to reheat the hive after the top has been removed. It can weaken the hive. Our goal is to get the established hives to Spring. My expectation is that we can get honey in late August 2014.
