Im talking again about transition from the book of Joshua. What are some of the roadblocks to fully walking into your promised land? The next challenge for Gods people was Gibeon: But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai, they worked craftily, and went and pretended to be ambassadors. And they took old sacks on their donkeys, old wineskins torn and mended, old and patched sandals on their feet, and old garments on themselves; and all the bread of their provision was dry and moldy. And they went to Joshua, to the camp at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel, “We have come from a far country; now therefore, make a covenant with us.” ....So Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them to let them live; and the rulers of the congregation swore to them. (Joshua 9:3-6, 15 NKJV) This is your land. People, things, thought patterns, attitudes, behaviors, and ideas can be roadblocks for you completely coming into your land if they are not of God, or do not line up with His word. You must be skilled at rejecting any of these aspects of this new land that dont help you move forward. Gibeon was literally 3000 feet in elevation, a hill country. Highly exalted, it was a very successful industrial city. It speaks of our pride and human success. In order to preserve their life, the elders of Gibeon chose deception. We are easily deceived. Pride pretends to be something it is not. Pride masquerades as your servant when its true ambition is your destruction. Pride allows us to to justify, rationalize, and compromise. It entreats us to keep closely guarded our fleshly pursuits so that parts of our heart remain unyielded to the Holy Spirit. And our justification is so reasonable, we simply believe it, defend it, and are therefore deceived. It makes so much sense - how could it be wrong? So we make a deal with that thing - whatever it is - to stay. We make a covenant with it. It becomes a squatter on our land of promise. We like it too much to fully reject it. Only you know what is your Gibeon. This message is not intended to bring shame or contempt. Let God reveal to you any attitude or thoughts about which you may be deceived. Tear up the contract. Make a new deal with Jesus through total surrender to Him and watch Him help you by His grace.
