Im thankful for all of the good words of advice and inspiration. As I look around and listen to what people are saying and what the reactions are to some of these comments not only about me but about the other candidates it can be disturbing. Today a young woman overhead a conversation going on about me and she felt anger because she felt their comments were unfounded and also sadness because she didnt feel it was safe to respond. Through this whole election process I am finding out that my skin is pretty tough and its good that I can remove myself from the negativity by not associating with the negative energy. I am inspired by all of you, to know that people are passionate about the candidates of their choice because we are all relatives in one way or another so we have to try and be respectful. I always remember that not one of us are perfect, we are all flawed human beings just trying to make a difference in this world. All people make mistakes so for me I try to see the good in everyone. Every choice we make comes with consequences some good and some bad and hopefully in the end we learn and grow from our life lessons. And just to be clear about a few things, I do support our Veterans. My daughter is a Veteran, my dad was a Veteran, my brother is a Veteran, my uncle Gordon Owen was a Veteran along with many other relatives who proudly served this country. I am also a supporter of education at all levels. I support our language and our culture. The work that I do in Meth Prevention does require drug testing and when homes and people are positive for drug abuse its not me out to get anyone its simply a process that we all must follow in order to create a healthier community. I believe as an Oyate we must do more, each and everyone of us has a responsibility to do our part to do work that will impact seven generations into the future. Im running for the office of Tribal Secretary not just so that I can have a job but so that I can do what I can to work as a team to empower and help our Oyate to grow. Im a lot like you..I just want those who are ready to make good positive changes for the Oyate to be elected. I want to see leaders in office who will use their voices to speak out, ask questions and look at both sides of every issue before making random decisions. We have so many educated, qualified, talented tribal members we can utilize to help make these good changes become a reality. I think its time we elect leaders who really will be proactive in the work that they are elected to do. If elected I can assure you that I will listen to you and i will do my best to represent all of us. #VoteOwen
