Im trying to understand the logic in having the Black Lives Matter - TopicsExpress

Im trying to understand the logic in having the Black Lives Matter conference in Arizona, when so many protesters and organizers are from the Midwest. I have no idea what the organization process looked like behind the scenes, so its quite possible that my frustration about this is unfair. However, I dont think that its inclusive to announce a conference six weeks before it occurs when its so far away from the center of where so much protest and organization has happened. So, I have questions, of course. Were Ferguson protesters/organizers included in the planning of this conference? Are any of them being asked to speak? What about We Charge Genocide, who has brilliantly organized protests in Chicago and in front of the UN in Geneva? Im trying really hard to not be divisive or jump to conclusions, but at first glance, this seems like the same closed circle of Black academics and intellectuals who talk amongst themselves. Someone, anyone, please tell me that Im wrong, that this gathering will make every effort to include the young people, artists and activists on the ground in the Midwest, where so much of the brutality against Black people has occurred. Please tell me that the folks whove been staging die-ins and shutting down streets are being decidedly included in such a critical gathering/dialogue. #blacklivesmatter #whichblacklivesmatter
