Im usually not the best at expressing myself with words but I - TopicsExpress

Im usually not the best at expressing myself with words but I figure this is worth a shot. It was a hot summer day December 26, 1999 the day after Christmas 15 years ago tomorrow. I remember like it was yesterday. I was at my grandparents house and I wasnt really sure of what was going on but there were many packed suitcases and all my family members were there. That night my family (Sergio DaSilva, Sonia DaSilva, and Rafael Garcia) and I were embarking on a new voyage and leaving our home country of Brazil and moving the the United States of America. It was 9 in the morning on December 27, 1999 our plane landed in Chicago OHare international airport. I didnt know where I was or what still was going on. We were in line to go through customs when for the first time I heard someone speak English. I looked at my dad extremely confused and asked dad what is he saying. My mom, brother and I had never travel outside of Brazil before so we werent sure what to expect. We got all our bags and went outside to get in to our car to see a cold and snow covered world. We were all amazed! On the drive from Chicago to our new home called Portage, Michigan we all keep my dad busy asking so many questions for what they were saying on the radio to how long do we have left to get to our new home. We finally arrived at our new home it was called Greensprire apartments. On the morning of January 4, 2000 it was my first day of school at Moorsbridge elementary. My parents walked walked me to my classroom. I didnt want them to leave me there because I was scared I had no idea what anybody was saying. For the next six month the struggle kept getting easier. The only thing I ever knew how to do well was math. So I looked forward for Fridays the only day of the week when I could keep up with everyone else multiplication table quiz. Time went by and before I knew it I was speaking, writing, and reading like everyone else. In August 2002 my dad bought our first house here and we were moving to Edgefield street. For the next 6 years we met some great people like the Koskis (Gloria Toti-Koski and Jan Koski) and the Parkers (Emmy Pedersen Brown and Parker Brown). I was always outside playing soccer, riding bikes, or sometimes inside plying video games with Jay Koski, Connor Brown Evan Brown, and Kendall Brown. In High School I got the opportunity to meet my two best friends until this day Tyler Hoopes and Mitchell Groh. Together we have made some great memories such as staying up late many nights playing video games, snowboarding, biking, and working on our cars. While I was at Western Michigan University I also made some great friendships with people such Ruben Norman, Aaron Spybrook, and Victor Bueno. Over the last 15 years my life has been great and Ive made a lot of memories here. In 2015 I will be moving back to Brazil to be closer to my family but one thing is certain now I have two homes forever Kalamazoo and São Paulo. Its not easy to just leave there will be many things that I will miss but I am glad Ive compiled many amazing memories here that I will always have with me were ever I go. I also would like to thank everyone who I met here but I didnt get to mention for being a part of my life!
