Im very reticent to jump on Facebook fads, but was asked to share my top 10 most influential books. Heres what I came up with--each has been very influential at a given time in my life. BTW, the Bible is just a given . . . . in no particular order, and after each I give a short rationale for this book making the list. 1. Reformation of the Heart by Dallas Willard First time I found a clear path to lasting life change. 2. The Normal Christian Life by Watchman Nee Absolutely formative in my assurance of salvation and Christs work on my behalf. 3. The Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster Read this back in college; opened up the value of a spiritually disciplined life. 4. Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas. Best book on marriage Ive found--very profound and convicting. Makes marriage about your walk with Christ, not personal happiness. 5. Mans Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl. Find a why to live and youll figure out a how to live--Frankl was a Jewish WW2 prison camp survivor. 6. Beautiful Outlaw by John Eldredge A contemporary and fresh look at Jesus without all the religious trappings. 7. Do Love by Andrew Rankin (me). Writing this book changed me deeply--still wrestling with the truths God revealed. 8. Foundation of Dogmatics by Otto Weber. Cant remember a thing Weber said theologically, but know that this book taught me to read difficult theology and process it. If you can read Weber, pretty much anyone else is a cake walk. 9. Letters of a Modern Mystic by Frank Laubach Great challenge to live literally minute-by-minute with an awareness of the Lord. 10. The Color Circle Series by Ted Dekker (Black, Red, White). Great fiction with powerful imagery.
