Im wide awake from too much caffeine on the LONG trip from NC to FLA, so why not share my story time? In my freshman year at South Gwinnett HS, I was in a PE class as my last class of the day. Some of the more popular girls were in it as well. They were quite the clique, and a bit of a hard nut to crack. They appeared very confident and self congratulatory. They embraced their own acceptance of one another as if they were the only ones that truly counted, and we were blessed to be in their presence. We were doing a tumbling class. They were trying to showoff, and I found it amusing. I turned to my friends and said, Watch this.. I then proceeded to through a diving round-off in the style of said popular girls. I came off my right hand ok, but faltered somewhere on the other side and landed with my left shoulder meeting my neck. There was a great snapping sound and I sat up stunned. My friends sent me to my teacher, and I told her that I thought I had broken my collarbone. Since there was only another 15-20 minutes left in class, she asked me if I could wait until the bell rang and she would drive me home. I said, Okay. Once the bell rang and the other students left, my teacher took me over to the football coach to access the damage and get his opinion. By now, I was cradling my left arm. He pushed along the collarbone and it appeared to be intact. (Hurt like the Devil) With that, she was relieved to a degree and drove me home. When I got home, the teacher explained the situation. It was well after 4pm and Mom felt like I was okay. She said that Dad would be home in an hour or so, and asked me if I could wait. I said, Okay.. When Dad got home, Mom filled him in, and again, they asked me if I could wait until after dinner. Okay.. We finally went to the hospital only to find out that my collarbone was indeed broken and being held in place by a thread! The only time I cried was when they set it in place with a brace that I would wear for the next 6 weeks. I wore Dads shirts to cover the brace, and endured my Mom washing and styling my hair! THAT was the worst pain a girl of 14 can endure!!
