Im wondering if it might be worth adding something to the Code of Conduct to discourage players from shushing or otherwise unnecessarily asking for quiet when a tournament is in a venue where noise is naturally to expected. For example, the tournament Im currently playing, is held at the Brooklyn Strategist, a game store, and it routinely fills up the cozy space. Additionally, now that it is warmer, the front door is kept open, which means noise from the outside will filter in. Asking for quiet not only does not do any good, but it disturbs other players. Lets get real here. Scrabble is supposed to be fun, and asking players to refrain from discussing their games, from making occasional remarks--frankly that takes a lot of the fun out of the game. I dont want to play the game as if it were held in a monastery with a vow of silence, and Id wager most players feel the same way. I dont know what the exact wording would be, but something to the effect of declaring it against the spirit of the game, or unsportsmanlike, to disturb other players by shushing or asking for quiet in naturally-noisy venues. I am not unsympathetic to players who are disturbed by noise, but I think they should choose tournaments that are held in quiet rooms that are not filled to capacity, instead of venues like a crowded game store on a crowded Brooklyn street.
