Imagine if Latinos got out on the streets and demonstrated (like the bold protestors of Ferguson) against the Murrieta-like ugly racism and bigotry by citizens, the racial profiling by cops, and the voter suppression and anti-immigration laws and policies favored by Tea Party/GOP politicians - all of which phenomena are collectively aimed at keeping Latinos uneducated, socially and economically oppressed, and politically disenfranchised. The black and brown joint demonstrations may scare America into taking positive and affirmative action. But, then again, a xenophobic country founded on Indian genocide, black kidnapping and slavery, and Chinese and Mexican cheap labor, may NEVER learn that racism and oppression is wrong and is evil and is not sustainable. Will or can American change? Because we finally elected a Black president, is America actually post-racial, like Chief Justice Roberts blissfully commented when the Supreme Court recently struck down major parts of the civil rights voting act. The actions by the Ferguson police, individually and collectively, is deplorable and speaks volumes of how our country is so violent and dysfunctional. Can institutional racism be eliminated? What say you? Shall we protest?
