Imagine if your self-esteem was *really* dependent on internet - TopicsExpress

Imagine if your self-esteem was *really* dependent on internet feedback, but your personality and writing style was not of the type that the leading social media algorithms favored. Or, you valued individual connections over mass popularity. Or, you were extremely unphotogenic. Or, very dyslexic. Or, you were intellectually aggressive and enjoyed debating as a logical exercise. Or, the medium where all your friends hung out selected you to be a test case for their psychological experiments at manipulating your Feed and to whom your Posts displayed, in order to influence your mental and emotional state. Would you alter your views and self-expression to meet popular demand? Would you change your personality, relationships, and lifestyle to conform? Is conforming the fastest route to superficial happiness? Basically, I can turn any technological feature into a dystopian sci-fi narrative, is what Im saying. Its like P.K. Dick is whispering in my ear saying, This is spooky. (P.S. I may be unphotogenic and lacking in diplomacy at times, but I dont have any paranoia of persecution. Im just observing and extrapolating to absurd ends.)
