Imagine the beauty of Yusuf alayhis salam that a woman who was older and had power, wealth and beauty literally ripped his shirt off to have him. She got him behind closed doors and tried to seduce him. When the women of her town heard about this, they mocked her saying how can she fall in love with a slave!? When she heard of this mocking, she called them to a banquet and gave each of them a knife. They were cutting their food and at that moment she ordered Yusuf to enter the room. The women were so blown away by his beauty and were staring at him with such intense gazes that the knives moved away from the food and they began to cut their own hands, yet they didnt even realise. The women then exclaimed that this isnt a man! This is a noble angel! The woman who tried to seduce Yusuf alayhis salam then stood up and said this is in the one I wanted but he refused, and if he doesnt give me what I want then I will imprison him. Now Yusuf was faced with an even bigger test.... a room full of women who wanted him and if he didnt listen he would be imprisoned. SubhanAllah. This is when he made a beautiful duaa that shows his chastity, patience, taqwa and tawakkul: He said, My Lord, prison is more to my liking than that to which they invite me. And if You do not avert from me their plan, I might incline toward them and [thus] be of the ignorant. (12:33) I think any man today would give in to this immense pressure and desire but this great prophet called upon Allah and said he may fall into their plan if Allah didnt save him, so Allah saved him. Nowadays we become excited if a woman gives us one look! Brothers, no matter how long we spend in the gym or styling our hair, no matter how many poses from a million different angles, were not like Yusuf! So aim for his patience and tawakkul. May Allah save us from the trials of the opposite gender.
