Imagine this: there’s a storm raging outside when suddenly your power shuts off. Left in complete darkness you fumble around until you locate a flashlight, but surprise, surprise the batteries are dead. What now? Well, one Canadian ten year old has stepped up to try and solve the problem. Anna Makosinski created a prototype for what totaled at about $26 for a flashlight that could run for 20 or so minutes just by pressing your hand up against it. While 20 minutes may not seem like much, this is a fantastic start to reducing battery use and harvesting unutilized human energy to power things. Makosinski is one of the finalists in this year’s Google science fair, and has the ability to earn funding for her creation, “The Hollow Flashlight”, to hopefully make it onto store shelves and into the hands of consumers. Makosinski explains her project in the video below, check it out! Don’t forget to like, share, and weigh in below!
