Impact is imminent ... . .. Hudhud impact is imminent now. The eye of the cyclone being just less than fifty kilometres off the coast of Visakhapatana as this is being composed, it is going to hit the landfall by next hour or so. The city as it appears from the coverage of the news channels live is already in shambles. Lots of trees and hoarding are found to have been uprooted and being blown away. It is a beautiful port city and it is to be seen how bad it is going to get after the calamity hits. I had visited only once to the place when I stayed at R K Beach. I can imagine the situation on the beach road. I guess, this will be a routine matter hence on as we are going to face similar Tropical Cyclones, one or more per year now in every year during months of October and November. It is a coincidence that Hudhud has hit India on the same day as Phailin hit last year. The atmospheric change is said to be responsible. The temperature of the ocean water has been elevated through a few degrees mainly because of the global warming. This is the primary reason for the cyclone to be created in the Indian ocean. We just cant do a thing about that. Twenty years back the weather during October used to be charming and beautiful in addition to being festive. A number of major festivals are observed in October. Now on, the minds will be filled with fears for the advent of the month. Place impacted is immaterial. Last year it was Gopalpur, this year its Visakhapattanam. Its only matter of time all the beautiful places of the coast like Puri, Chilka, Balasore and Paradeep are going to be hit. Only thing to be prayed is to see that the loss of life and properties remain at the minimum. I had been part of a locality which faced severest kind of flood following the cyclone. We had faced the cyclone in Orissa in a very prepared manner, but perhaps there was no concrete plan to face the post cyclone situations. Cities near my area went inside water of unprecedented height. Buildings went inside one and half floor to two floors completely along with the contents. Surprising, isnt it. Lets brace ourselves for the worst. .. ..
