Impartiality and the BBC. If people really want to know what is wrong with the Country you need look no further than the Unions. If I had been a union Boss I would have spent the last 20 years building up a fighting fund so I could keep the strikers out, on full pay, for however long it takes to turn the politicians away from moving ever further to the right. All the major parties have moved so far to the right today they are in serious danger of slipping into full blown Fascism. Even Labour are espousing far right ideologies. The new middle ground of British (read English) politics is now far to the right of the Macmillan Government. And where are the BBC on all this? Seeking balance? No the BBC are sitting in the middle of this mess rather than defining their purpose as being that based on an historical analysis that sees our culture in the round and deep into the realms of pre history. In the round Channel 4 does this better than the BBC and although regulated it is still a commercial channel. If the BBC would take an historical perspective of their duty to be impartial rather than taking a modern contemporary position on impartiality it could and should be taking the Government to task regarding the ConDem’s attacks upon the disabled and poor. We should be having documentaries on the housing crisis, documentaries on the Benefits crisis and its consequences for the poor. Where are the Fyfe Robinsons today? They are gone. Today we have poor presenters that feebly challenge the new ‘orthodoxy’ that says we garner people’s uneducated prejudices and use this to determine political policies which ultimately harm the actual bodies of our civilian population. The BBC are remitted to be above contemporary limitations on impartiality and are mandated to tell it as it is irrespective of where the mainstream political parties have taken themselves. In a World between Stalin and Hitler the BBC should not remain impartial, but should be condemning them both.
