Impressions from an apartment in the city center of Pripyat. The city was evacuted on April 27th, 1986 at 2pm via 1.100 buses brought in from Kiev. In only two hours this thriving young city turned into a ghost town. Inhabitants were told to prepare for a temporary evacuation of three days, as a simple precaution because of an unfavourable radiation condition at the power plant. They left with their documents, their money and clothes for three days. The rest of their possessions, their homes, they left behind. Some time after the evacuation, the army was brought into town. The soldiers had orders to break open the apartments and throw what was left inside out the windows, where everything was collected and brought to a permanent repository. This served to keep the former inhabitants from sneaking back into their homes and retrieve their now highly radioactive possessions...
