Impressive fact to tell your bank teller #776: Some scholars speculate that "e pluribus unum" (one from many), one of the most pervasive of US mottoes, is derived from a passage of a ancient Roman poem about a peasant blending various ingredients into a dish. Below is the passage from the "Moretum." "His hand goes round in a circle; gradually the individual ingredients lose their particular qualities, and there is one color instead of many [color est e pluribus unus], not entirely green, since the milky morsels resist this, and not shining milk-white, since it is varied with so many herbs."
