In 1974, an economics professor gave me a copy of The Economist magazine. I subscribed a week later and have read it virtually every week since. I see The Economist as a really bright friend. We dont always agree, but I always finish the conversation smarter than when I arrived. It is almost impossible to be ill-informed about key issues around the world if you read it regularly. I appreciate the breadth as well as the depth of its reporting--it provides excellent surveys of technology, art and literature in addition to the news and financial information. My only complaint is that it The Economist is so thorough. Over 100 pages of new material each week means that sometimes I fall a few issues behind in my reading. Im very much looking forward to finishing 2012 and finding out who wins the US presidential election.
