In 2002, my dad was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. A type of blood cancer. At the time; He was given a year to live. Im happy to say Its been a crazy 12 years of ups and downs. Chemo, transplants, from riddled with tumours to a miraculous spontaneous remission to then an aggressive recurrence that was worse than the first, more chemo, eastern medicine, diets, experimental medicine, another transplant, and finally another miraculous remission thats remained for nearly 7 years. My parents were both so positive through every stage. Faith and love were always more the focus, than the sickness. And even though cancer is a word that seemed so ominous and dark in any other circumstance; at home, it was just something to overcome. And today I get the honour to run some hiphop workshops with the kids at Camp Quality. I know MMAD and Cancer Council chose me because of my passion for hiphop; but I think the positive outlook my family taught me in the face of tribulation will be far more beneficial over the next few days. At least I hope I can bring even a fraction of that same amount of faith and love and positivity to these kids lives. Wish me luck. Peace.
