In 2002, on Australia Day, I held a lone protest at the Coolum Beach Australia Day parade and celebrations in the park. I stood there by myself for several hours with two signs. One said cmon Aussies give refugees a fair go and the other sack Philip Ruddock. I received police attention for my efforts, thanks to the organisers however after several phone calls the police allowed me to continue. At the time I was angry with the Tampa crisis aftermath and didnt want to believe that apparently 99% of Australians supported Howards policies. I was heartened to have MORE people come up and voice their support than those who said they were not happy with my views. How about this Australia Day we make some sort of public stand. ..whether singularly or collectively
