In 2005 I paid $887 to have the dealer replace the timing belt , water pump, tensioner , & serpentine belt on my 1998 VW New Beetle 2.0 ( bought brand new with 2 miles )...... I decided now that the service was due again and Im not made of money ( car now has 131,500 miles ) The 2.0 4 cylinder is an interference motor ( which means kiss the motor goodbye if the timing belt breaks) So this time , my cost on parts was $120. ( helps to work in the industry sometimes ;) ) ( beats the HELL outta paying a dealer to do it again..... keep in mind $887 was 2005 labor rates... I can only imagine what itd cost now :/ ) I did a ton of research and figured Id try doing the work at home .... Special thanks to Arthur Needham for giving me a hand pulling off this HUGE job!. And thanks to Tracy Needham for bringing us lunch ( us guys never think to stop and eat when you get in the groove) OCHO runs like a champ!
