In 2014, DC reported an unemployment rate of 8.1 percent. However, Wards 5, 7, and 8 reported unemployment rates of 9.4 percent, 11.6 percent, and 17.7 percent, respectively. This disparity in jobless rates across our communities is unacceptable, and I support a living wage for all DC workers. We should assess the current legislation, which is scheduled to raise the minimum wage to $11.50 per hour by 2016, and index the rate to inflation after 2016.
