In 2014, the world has seen the heights to which refugees can rise when given the chance to start a new life in dignity and peace. A former refugee became the first American citizen in a generation to win the Boston Marathon. At the same time the world has been challenged by the ongoing and urgent need to protect the vulnerable fleeing conflicts in Syria, South Sudan, the Congo, Myanmar, and Central Africa. This World Refugee Day, The Episcopal Church honors the proud legacy of our Churchs intentional work of welcoming refugees - a ministry that began in 1939 through the Presiding Bishops Fund for World Relief. -The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, Presiding Bishop and Primate, The Episcopal Church
