In 2015, Im going to continue to be FEARLESS in my efforts to help others life healthier, more fulfilling lives. While at church on Sunday, I realized that I have so much more to share in hopes of reaching out to others to help them learn, grow, and feel better about themselves. Fear may have been holding me back, but Ive been convicted to share. Id rather grow than look perfect in the eyes of others. Id rather fail 10x than stand still, doing nothing, sharing less. So--here goes. Depression is a condition that affects reportedly 1 in 10 Americans. At church, we saw statistics of it being more like 3 in 10 Christians. That said, of my 1500 friends on Facebook, around 50 (Id bet much more) have experienced symptoms including but not limited to alienation, emotional isolation, unhealthy connections or relationships, sleep changes, appetite and weight changes, self-loathing, or reckless behavior....(just to name a few). As if depression weren’t bad enough, statistics show that diagnoses are growing at an alarming rate. In addition, states with higher rates of depression also show high rates of other negative health outcomes, such as obesity, heart disease, and stroke. Individuals suffering from depression are more likely to be unemployed or recently divorced than their non-depressed counterparts. Women experience greater risk of depression than men. Despite all of these statistics on depression, many people suffer symptoms of depression without seeking care. Now a global health issue, depression awareness, diagnosis, and treatment are matters of crucial significance in building a healthier, happier world. Im not a counselor or an expert, but Ive experienced bouts of anxiety and/or depression most of my life. Im incredibly excited to share the resources that come my way through a series (Hitting Rock Bottom) that is being presented to us at my church. If you would be interested in a safe-place to learn more, grow more, and share resources, please comment below or private message me. Depression is more than just a feeling.
