In Bangladesh we have eight (8) wild cat species out of 38 in the earth, out the 38 cat species, 12 occur in Tropical and Temperate Asia. And 10 are endemic to the region. So we are not really bad shape in terms of distribution. However what is terribly wrong is large number of human population outplaying the wild cat. Bangladesh is the 9th most densely populated country in the world. Isnt it fascinating to have these great cat diversity even in this extremely human dominated landscape? In Bangladesh the remaining cat species are Tiger (in the Sundarbans and in the CHT, maybe some vagrant in the North-east as well), common leopard (CHT maybe a few in NE), Clouded Leopard (CHT, and maybe be in NE as well), Fishing cat (most probably all over Bangladesh, and I think Bangladesh is one of the last remaining stronghold of this magnificent medium cat), Marbled cat (CHT), Asiatic golden cat (CHT, could be in NE as well), Leopard cat (all over Bangladesh), Jungle cat (all over Bangladesh mostly in the human dominated areas).
