In Cambodia I first hand saw how rice is processed and the difference between brown and white rice. These racy green machines were driving up and down the roads all the time with masked men and women driving them. I discovered that they are the local rice processors. So you store up your husked rice in bulk. Then every month you put 2 sacks out on a tarpaulin on your front lawn to dry out, and call these guys and they come and process it .... So here is how it works: Step 1 - put the husked rice into the machine on the right, it takes the husks off and it produces brown rice. Step 2 - take this basket of de-husked rice and put it through the machine on the left and it takes off the bran (and any surplus husks not removed in step 1) and produce white rice Step 3 - take bran with the nutrients, vitamins and fibre and feed it to the pigs So all these people need to do to get more nutrients is just skip step 2 and eat brown rice. Their eatable yields would also increase, plus you need less brown rice to feel full. I am not sure of the exact food science percentages - but you would think they would have an extra 50% rice available that they could sell and also be healthier!!! It is ironic that they take the good part of the rice and feed it to the pigs! I saw 3 different machines in action. The first de-husking process was different on each - with one machine removing virtually all the husks and others leaving quite a bit in. However as they process again they are not too worried about it. So with a bit of fine tuning I am sure they could make their first process eliminate all the husks.
