In Ephesians 2:16 Paul clarifies more of the resulting work of the cross for us. When we are living in sin, controlled and ruled by the flesh, Christ died on the cross so the hostility we live in can be done away with – killed. In other words, Christ’s death on the cross was about reconciliation. He reconciled the enmity between our flesh and the life God desires for us to live. He reconciled the requirements of God in heaven with our sinful condition. He reconciled the gift of peace with broken defeated man. He reconciled us with the Father by dying on the cross so we would not have to be punished for our wrong doings. How did Jesus do this? He defeated the enemy. He paid the price for our sins. He purchased for us a gift that no amount of man’s ‘stuff’ could purchase. He invaded our lives and gave us ‘grace’ so we would have the desire and the power to do the things the Father would have us do. What an awesome Savior! What a loving Redeemer! What a glorious and faithful Son! What a Christ! He is my Reconciler! Is He yours?
