In Fight to Stop Ebola, Nigeria Got Right Everything America Got - TopicsExpress

In Fight to Stop Ebola, Nigeria Got Right Everything America Got Wrong – Foreign Policy Magazine. The quotation such as the one above made us to realise the level of fear the world has for Nigeria as regards the Ebola epidemic, they are afraid that Nigeria with our poor healthcare infrastructure, the population density of Lagos and other urban centres, our unstructured way of handling crisis, and lack of organisation in almost everything we do as a nation will make the epidemic become a national crisis and ultimately overwhelm us and in turn bring down the entire West Africa sub-region. Again, I read a commentary that says Nigeria was able to contain the epidemic because it happened in Lagos – the city that has the most technological advanced healthcare system in West Africa – meaning that if it was to be in any other State, the story would have been different. I think there’s nothing Nigeria did right that the U.S. did wrong in this case, what happened in the U.S. is that there were human errors which I called negligence that made the two nurses to be infected. The lesson here is that Nigeria’s our ability to contain Ebola in spite of all our failures in every other facet of life shows that we can actually do much more than our present state if we put political, religious and tribal sentiments aside. If we can erase the sentiments of disparity between the rich and the poor – attending to issues that affect the poor as well, then Nigeria will become one of the greatest nation on earth. thecable.foreignpolicy/posts/2014/10/20/in_fight_to_stop_ebola_nigeria_got_right_everything_america_got_wrong
