In #Gaza, City of Hashim: Homes are bombed and collapse upon their residents. Remark: the ‘right’ to defend ourselves. Schools and hospitals are bombed. Remark: the ‘right’ to defend ourselves. Hundreds of fatalities, thousands injured. Remark: the ‘right’ to defend ourselves. What is the difference between those uttering these remarks and those who justified the attacks on the twin towers in 9/11 and blew up the trains on 7/7 in London and the cinema in Moscow on 23/10? Didn’t they all justify their crimes by the preemptive ‘right’ to defend themselves? The nuclear bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were argued in self-defence. The crimes of the Holocaust were considered by the Nazi’s as a form of self-defence. This begs us to ask: is there still a person amongst us who believes that the ‘advanced’ world and its systems are universal protectors of human rights? Those who justify the aggression in Gaza - is there a drop of blood remaining in their bodies that can render them as still being considered from the human species? Do they have no shame in lecturing us on human rights? O Allah, awaken this umma, join their ranks and unify their word; alleviate oppression and repel the aggressors; You alone are our Protector, O best of Protectors and the best of Helpers.
