† In Memory - DEC 12: ***1939 – Douglas Fairbanks, American actor, producer, and screenwriter (b. 1883) Douglas Fairbanks (May 23, 1883 – December 12, 1939) was an American actor, screenwriter, director, and producer. He was best known for his swashbuckling roles in silent films such as The Thief of Bagdad, Robin Hood, and The Mark of Zorro but spent the early part of his career making comedies. On December 12, 1939, Fairbanks had a mild heart attack. He died later that day at his home in Santa Monica. O:) ***1976 – Jack Cassidy, American actor (b. 1927) John Joseph Edward “Jack” Cassidy (March 5, 1927 – December 12, 1976) was an American singer and actor of stage, film, and television. By 1976, Cassidy was living alone in a penthouse apartment in West Hollywood. In the early morning hours of December 12, Cassidy lit a cigarette and fell asleep on his Naugahyde couch. He then dropped the cigarette, which ignited the couch. The flames quickly spread throughout the apartment and the building. A charred body, burned beyond recognition, was found in the doorway of Cassidys apartment. O:) ***1985 – Ian Stewart, Scottish keyboard player (The Rolling Stones) (b. 1938) Ian Andrew Robert Stewart (18 July 1938 – 12 December 1985) was a Scottish keyboardist, co-founder of The Rolling Stones and inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was dismissed from the line-up in May 1963 but he remained as road manager and pianist. In early December 1985, Stewart began having respiratory problems. On 12 December he went to a clinic to have the problem examined; he suffered a heart attack and died in the waiting room. O:) ***2006 – Peter Boyle, American actor and singer (b. 1935) Peter Lawrence Boyle (October 18, 1935 – December 12, 2006) was an Irish-American actor, best known for his role as Frank Barone on the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, and as a comical monster in Mel Brooks film spoof Young Frankenstein (1974). On December 12, 2006, Boyle died in New York City at New York Presbyterian Hospital after suffering from multiple myeloma and heart disease. He was 71 years old. O:) ***2007 – Ike Turner, American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer (Kings of Rhythm and Ike & Tina Turner) (b. 1931) Ike Wister Turner (November 5, 1931 – December 12, 2007) was an American musician, bandleader, songwriter, arranger, talent scout, and record producer. An early pioneer of fifties rock and roll, he is most popularly known for his work in the 1960s and 1970s with his then-wife Tina Turner in the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. In 2005, Turner revealed he had been diagnosed with emphysema and in his last years was extremely weak, having to use an oxygen tank. O:) https://youtube/watch?v=SI1EN6GCGc0 ***2008 – Van Johnson, American actor, singer, and dancer (b. 1916) Van Johnson (August 25, 1916 – December 12, 2008) was an American film and television actor and dancer who was a major star at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer during and after World War II. After having been ill and receiving hospice care for the previous year, he died there on December 12, 2008. Wendy Bleisweiss, a close friend, indicated that he died of natural causes. O:)
