In Merca, the thief would get beat down by people funded with stolen money (taxation), then thrown in a cage paid for with stolen money (taxation). I believe this is by far a more humane and respectable way to make clear what the societal norm is (in this case, like most societies, property rights). That doesnt mean I necessarily believe this is the best punishment -- just making it clear I believe this is better than the so called Rule of Law the American state has implemented. The people dolling out the punishment are the ones with _their_ name on the sticks they are using. They arent hiding behind a shiny badge or a belief that costumes paid for with stolen money grant special rights to abduct, beat, and if necessary kill the person who has ignored the norm. The people using the sticks are essentially saying here I am, punishing you, and Ill take responsibility for how it goes. And if they go too far, everyone knows they would have gone too far. No bureaucratic paperwork bullshit hiding that it went too far. Just people to people -- peer to peer -- based on integrity and reputation. Thats freedom, like it or not. #Agorist
