In Nigeria, evil is pleasurable Evil has a different meaning - TopicsExpress

In Nigeria, evil is pleasurable Evil has a different meaning in Nigeria than in any other country of the world. In Nigeria, evil is pleasurable, excusable, glorified and celebrated. You can deceive or kill people and still get a celebrity status in the public. Ever wonder why 419 is the best business for more than three decades in Nigeria? You can destroy an entire community, a county (local council), a state or even the country and still be honored by Universities around the country. The Police can use their power to victimize citizens, make illegal arrests, take bribe from the innocent and still put him or her in jail, release the criminal and apologize for ever attempting to question his/her criminal act, and talk about it boldly with others while they laugh at the story. The civil servant can destroy good business with red tape or kick-back, deliberately make corruption the policy by telling citizens that the boss would be angry if the business of government is done in a clean and ethical way. Evil is not regarded as horrible if a group of people are given a bad name so that they can be lynched on the street while others watch their unlawful execution in horror and still justified the mobs action as great! Nigerian heads of state can burn down the buildings of newspaper and/or kill reporters. Politicians can hire tugs to assassinate opponents, destroy properties and steal votes without consequences. Judges can pervert justice. Preachers can lie and deceive their followers while they continue to praise him/her as the greatest. Evil is not seen as evil in Nigeria. Evil is seen as good, valid and pleasurable. Evil is nothing to the eye of a Nigerian beholder. Nigerians are not angry at evil doings or evil doers. They don’t even like those who are preoccupied with calling attention to evil in Nigerian affairs. Nigerians think you are dragging them down if you try to call their attention to evil. Some would even tell you not to “waste your time” or accuse you of troublemaking. There is no extent of evil that can get Nigerians angry enough to ostracize looters of their wealth even as tens of millions of Nigerians are dying of hunger, unnecessary illnesses and diseases, and poverty. They still gather around, sing and dance for those who have destroyed their lives. Such a people can never assume that they are humane in any sense of the word. Something is fundamentally wrong with Nigerians if they cannot identify evil and be righteously angry enough to demand a stop to evil no matter how small or big.
